Contrary to the popular economic-rationalist view that employees are just human capital; an asset or resource, we believe they are so much more than that. Describing people as business assets can have unanticipated negative impacts as other 'asset words' become associated. Words such as acquire, own, depreciate, run, repair, broken, damaged, lease, superseded, and similar do not belong with people, who are none of those things. When managers with this type of mindset interact with others, the results are usually undesirable. |
If we were to review your performance culture, what would we find? For example, would we find employees that are self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, able to problem-solve appropriately, enjoying their work - essentially acting as volunteers rather than conscripts! Would we find managers that lead by example, are actively responsible for the performance of those that report to them and who regularly let their team members know how they are going? So what do we actually do? Generally, we will do some research to find out the current state of play. Working with your key people, we then define very carefully and clearly the stated outcomes required from the change, ensuring that each of the four key elements of your performance culture is included. The next step will depend on what we've learned so far, and will typically involve some communication and ownership processes such as workshops or other discussions with the employees to gain their input and views. The process may involve some training or some team-centred problem solving. A change process will then be designed and implemented to transition the business from the 'current state' to the 'desired state'. Review and feedback loops in the process ensure that the project stays on track to achieve the desired outcomes of the change process. |

The design of the change process is the key. It looks simple, and it isn't. You're dealing with people: the smallest thing could make the largest difference. You can get the strategy right, the assets right and the systems right, but unless you get the people-side right, you're almost certainly going to have problems, and potentially a disaster. That's where our skill and experience will make the difference for your business, because that's what we do: we help you to build the performance culture that you want. For a brochure click here. |
